The Dallas Yacht Club board of officers is saddened to announce the sudden passing Monday, June 23, of John Johnson, 59, beloved husband of DYC vice commodore of power Melissa Johnson. John died peacefully in his sleep.
In respect of his passing, the June 28 DYC Luau event has been canceled.
John was a loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. Melissa was the love of his life. He doted on his children, Bobby Johnson and Sarah Johnson LaNore and her husband Marc and they returned his love unreservedly. He had a special place in his heart for Emma, his adored granddaughter.

John loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a pharmacist, a profession he shared with Melissa. But in his free time, John was a boater and wine connoisseur who loved fine food and traveling. He and Melissa occasionally combined their passion for traveling and wine with trips to various wineries, where the couple expanded their knowledge of winemaking and their wine cellar.
When John and Melissa joined the close fraternity of boaters at Dock 23 on Eagle Point Marina, the couple quickly embraced the boating life and enhanced the lives of everyone who came in contact with them. Along the way, they built enduring friendships with their boating “family.” As the spouse of a DYC officer, John wholeheartedly supported Melissa in volunteering at events and giving of their spare time and energy helping to build the organization it is today. John will be sorely missed by his boating family.
Visitation is 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst, Texas, 76053., www.lucasfuneralhomes.com

A celebration of John’s life is at 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 27, at First United Methodist Church of Hurst, 521 W. Pipeline Road, Hurst, Texas, 76053, www.fumchurst.org/
